I met Brooke Yantzi at The Daybreaker early morning sunrise dance party at the top of the CN Tower in Toronto on a somewhat cloudy August day.
I had no ideas that I would discover perhaps the most important workshop on my long healing journey.
The morning started off with a warm welcome followed by some breathwork and then Brooke taught us ways to move that many had likely never experienced before. As some time passed I found myself dancing in a way that I had never experienced before as though the self conscious part of me had magically vanished like the clouds that surrounded the tower finally did allowing the sun/spirit to shine through.
A few days later, I woke up feeling a bit of an old negative feeling and decided to put on some music and dance ~ the feeling vanished instantly and I realized that I had discovered something I had been searching for for a long time ~ Joy and feeling alive.
A few days later I heard this Ted Talk that Brooke gave; in just a few minutes she summed up what the entire world of psychology/psychiatry seems to have missed ~ the very essence of what true emotional/mental healing is all about ~ re-wiring the nervous system.
I wrote Brooke saying that she should for sure be awarded with a PhD. in Psychology. She also summarized the entire healing journey reminding us of the goal of it all ~ expanding our nervous system so that we are able to truly step into our power.
In Brooke's words from the Ted Talk..."Challenging our nervous system, facing our fears in small doses so that we can expand our capacity to step into those big dreams. When we allow ourselves to become uncomfortalbe in these small ways, it actually allows us to expand our ability to hold the larger challenges, to hold the bigger dreams, to build our confidence for what we desire to create. One of my favourite ways that I love helping people expand their capacity, their nervous system, to be able to lean in to those uncomfortabilities is through dance. It's in these uncomfortable moments where we lean into our growth edges, where we allow ourselves to expand and communicate with our bodies that it's safe."
You can find our more about Brooked and her workshops on her website.
"Our body KNOWS the truth far before the mind,
but we can hold so many blocks inside us.
We can hold so much pain and suffering in our bodies."
