Mother ~ John Lennon

I always identified with John Lennon and perhaps that had to do with the fact that we both lost our mom's at such tender ages.

John Lennon was 17 years old when his mother, Julia Lennon, was tragically killed in a car accident on July 15, 1958, a devastating loss that profoundly influenced his life and music, as she died just as their relationship was strengthening. 

This song, Mother, that he wrote seemed to be one of the ways that helped him process the

devastating grief. It's incredible how powerful the arts are in helping people process buried emotions.

“When I was 5 years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down ‘happy’. They told me I didn’t understand the assignment, and I told them they didn’t understand life.”
