I had been to an outdoor rock concert in Earl Bales Park in the north end of Toronto. I had taught skiing on the hill there ~ pretty amazing to have a ski hill with a chairlift in the middle of a big city.
The music was amazing; there was a cover band for the Allman Brothers. I hadn't followed them too closely so it truly was like a journey back in time.
They played this song that I don't believe I had heard before. It was interesting because I had recently bought a ticket for
a festival called 'Soulshine'. Yes, we should all allow our soul to shine...
I was reminded of this Allman Brother's song that I had always liked ever since I had heard it ~ Blue skies.
“Without music, life would be a mistake.”
~ Friedrich Nietzsche
The next day I touched base with a brilliant musician and my very good friend Lee Saba Hutchinson who wrote and said this about 'Reason to live', "I was an athiest trying to figure out Hymn to Freedom by Oscar Peterson, a few years back. I channeled this song from beginning to end in one shot - words and music. I do praise consciousness within and around me daily."
I asked Lee what some of his favourite tunes were; a few truly brought me back in time and reminded me how much music has been a part of my journey. In fact, one of my favourite movies was Almost Famous about a young writer who followed a rock band.
These were a few of Lee's favourite tunes which reconnected me with some of the music I loved in my teenage years:
Creedance Clear Water Revival...'Have you ever seen the rain?'
'Down on the corner' also by Credence Clearwater Revival.
The Band playing 'The Weight'. Brilliantly done with musicians performing around the world.
Mind Games by John Lennon.
"Love is the answer and you know that for sure. Love is the flower...you gotta let it, you gotta let it go..."
Top Ranking by Bob Marley
and the Wailers.
